City Motion and Human

The first step for this project started naturally. The paintings below were made without any inspiration or concept based on, they were made spontaneously. However, they were the starting point for the project that consists in three different parts: human, city and motion.

My project is about the relation between human beings and developed cities. Nowadays we live in a society focused in the individual progression. Living in a city like London made me realize how small we became towards the environments we created throught the years and how lost we can feel when everything around us is multiple unknown individuals, grey skies, huge buildings and rush in transports. Each one os us is becoming more and more irrelevant.

Part I - Human

The first part of this project is the human series. These photos were not planned but the result was exactly what I wanted to my project. There is clearly something beautiful on them that contrasts with a depressive and struggling feeling caused by the movement and expression of the figure. The blurred element is related with the loss of identity and soul. The motion shows the dynamism around us as a concept that can consume ourselves.

Part II - City

The second part of this project is the city series. In order to demonstrate my concepts my aim was to capture the city dynamism and the rush. The blurred is related not only with the lack of identity but also with the objective of focusing only on the movement.

Part III - Motion

The third and last part is called Motion and is the combination between human and city, the main concept of the project. Joining both concepts, the results demonstrated in the images can show all my ideas about the alienation of the human in the city and the aspects of time passing, emphasising our irrelevance towards the environments that surround us.

In the first gallery below are my first images, which I thought they were too lyrical for what I intended to transmit. With this, I considered using them in black and white but after I changed them, I realised there were a few elements of lights in the images that I would lose. In the end, I decided to put the background (city) in black and white, since city is the element of depression, loss and consume, and leave the light elements and the figure in colors. The final images are visible in the second gallery.

Paintings - Oil on canvas

With these images I decided to take myself to a different level. Inspired by my photos, I started to put the elements I found most interesting in my paintings and the result is a mysterious abstract surface.
